What is “Trashumancia” (transhumance)?
It is also called cattle driving, and it is the process when herders move and guide a herd of cattle from one place to another. It is usually a seasonal movement between summer and winter fixed pastures.
In Spain, herders travel long distances guiding herds of cows, sheeps or goats in search of greener pastures in summer and warmer climatic conditions in winter. Spanish transhumance is the origin of numerous related cultures in the Americas such as the Cowboys of the United States and the Gauchos of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil.
